NWLLS Mission

The staff at NWLLS is dedicated to maximizing the potential of children, adolescents and adults who suffer from neuro-cognitive deficits, ADD, and/or learning disabilities. We strive to improve  the long term functioning of our clients in school or work settings by improving verbal and nonverbal communication, comprehension,  reading, writing and spelling skills.

Our Students

We primarily serve children and adolescents ages 4-18 with language and learning disabilities. However, we also work with adults who have struggled with language and learning disabilities to improve their vocabulary, reading and grammar skills  in order to achieve collegiate or occupational success.

Specific areas of difficulty which we can address include:

vocabulary comprehension

word finding

listening and retaining information

following directions

organizing thoughts for verbal or written communication

grammar and written language

auditory analysis

phonological processing

reading

reading comprehension

spelling

social skills

articulation and oral motor coordination

executive functioning strategies

Students with language and learning disabilities often have co-existing diagnoses such as ADD/ADHD, Asperger's Syndrome, Down Syndrome, seizure disorders, sensory integration difficulties, and nonverbal learning disorders. Determining your child's strengths and weaknesses promotes appropriate objectives regardless of prior diagnosis.

Our Evaluation Process

First, we will set up an intake call or meeting where we can gather information about your child’s areas of difficulty. At this time we will also request any previous or current evaluation reports and IEPs. After reviewing this information, we will formulate an evaluation plan specific to your child's needs.

Once we have determined what testing is necessary, we will set up an appropriate amount of evaluation time for test administration. Following the testing, we will meet with you to discuss the evaluation results and explain your child’s areas of strength and weakness along with our recommendations for remediating any areas of deficit.

Following the conference, a detailed report including test scores, explanations of testing procedures, discussion of strengths and weaknesses, and recommendations will be written. Additionally, a detailed plan outlining our process for remediation can be provided. Other types of documentation can also be prepared upon request, such as letters for academic accommodations or insurance reimbursement.

Therapy

After recommendations have been discussed and a plan developed, we provide individual therapy services addressing your child's specific areas of need. The frequency of therapy sessions and the duration of treatment are dependent on an individual student's ability level and remediation goals.

Re-evaluations are completed as appropriate for each student, generally following 6 to 8 months of services. Re-evaluations are completed in order to demonstrate that progress is being made toward goals, re-establish skill levels in targeted areas, and determine the need for additional therapy.

Parent Comments

"We began working with the therapists at NWLLS a little over 2 years ago...The extensive annual diagnostic evaluations and detailed treatment plans have helped our son make huge strides in his academic achievements, learning skills, and level of self-esteem. The therapists are extremely patient, fun, and reassuring, and although it is a lot of work for our son, he recognizes how far he has come with NWLLS's help. I know he would not be as successful in school without NWLLS."

Donna Robbins

"Our profoundly dyslexic daughter has been seeing a speech-language pathologist at NWLLS for the past five years. We have been very pleased not only with her progress in reading and writing, but also with the personal interest, friendship and flexibility Patricia and previous therapists have shown. The therapists at NWLLS have been terrific and we will miss them as our daughter heads off to University next year."
